DOES YOUR WEBSITE PASS THE GRUNT TEST?
First of all, what’s the Grunt Test?
Created by Donald Miller, the founder of StoryBrand, the “Grunt Test” is a quick and powerful way to evaluate your website homepage and landing pages, The name comes from the idea that if a caveman happens upon your website, he should be able to answer the following three questions in about 8 seconds:
The Grunt Test
Scientifically, this makes a lot of sense. Our brains are hardwired to avoid risk and uncertainty. So if your website confuses me or forces me to have to think too hard, I’m gone. On the other hand, there is a part of our brain that lights up when we think about a compelling future for ourselves. So if your website can tell me how it will make my life better, then there is a better chance of keeping me on it.
Sounds easy, right? It’s simple but not necessarily easy as most businesses have more than one product on offer.
Here are 4 Grunt Test Pass Tips:
What comes above the fold is crucial. Make your header relevant, clear and uncluttered.
Less is more when it comes to word count. Use clear and concise language to explain what you offer.
Have a clear call to action in the top right corner of your header and on your hero image.
Use imagery that shows your customers a happy result.
